Inside No.50 Gwithian Towans
After driving past other characteristic chalets of the area, you arrive at the home. You walk through the door and are drawn towards the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is a good size and is well equipped with a full height 50/50 fridge freezer, an induction hob, electric oven, deep ceramic sink, a slim-line dishwasher, washing machine, quartz countertops and lots of storage and appliances. The living area features a large L-shaped sofa seating five to six people, a Smart TV, and a freestanding woodburner to keep the chalet nice and toasty. The dining area has a family-sized table and bench seating for six. This area also benefits from wide patio doors to the garden.
Bedroom one is also downstairs and has a zip-and-link bed which you can have configured together as a king sized bed or as two singles. This room has a TV, a rattan wardrobe, and an en suite with walk-in shower, basin and WC. Downstairs is also the contemporary family bathroom, which is fully tiled and features a shower, wash basin and WC. Up the stairs takes you to bedroom two, a large and versatile sleeping space which can sleep two, three or four additional guests — it has a king-sized bed and a further single bed with trundle bed underneath. At the end of this room are French doors opening out to the balcony — the perfect place to check on the surf, or to watch the sun set over the bay.
The garden and surrounding area
Private gardens at Gwithian Towans are not a ‘given' and we are delighted that No.50 has a lovely one! It's enclosed, private, and right outside the main living area with large patio doors opening through, so outdoor living is a breeze. It's also west-facing meaning that it welcomes the sun for most of the day and catches the light as the sun sets too. Here you have a table for family al fresco dining, a barbecue, sun loungers, a place to store surfboards— as well as the obligatory outdoor hot and cold après-surf shower.
Beyond the garden lies why you came here, the marvelous location. You are right on the edge of three miles of fabulous unspoilt beach. This is one of Cornwall's finest with both epic surf and lovely family friendly sand-pools and rock-pools, revealing themselves as the tide recedes. The beach is lifeguarded at busy times of year, please check the RNLI website for more info. Backing the beach and extending for miles to the south are wild and rolling sand dunes, and in the opposite direction an easy walk away is dramatic Godrevy headland, with craggy cliffs, abundant seals, soaring seabirds, and the island topped with the iconic lighthouse.
Nearby are various eateries ranging from the very handy Sunset Surf (about two minutes walk) offering everything from enticing breakfasts and after-surf feasts, to surf hire, lessons, gear and apparel. For a more simple dining experience, The Jam Pot and the Hungry Horsebox are also here. The delightful Godrevy Café, The Rockpool, and the Red River Inn in the village are also excellent and make great opportunities to walk and feast.
Things we love…
Like all of our beach chalets at Gwithian Towans, No.50 is utterly unique. It's been lovingly restored and modernised with great sensitivity by its owners, who are passionate about the area and are themselves keen surf and beach lovers. We love the blend of tradition and contemporary twists here — giving you all the comforts of home in this stunning location. In summer this is the place for beach life, with long days by the sea, in and out of the water, learning to surf (you never stop learning!), in and out of rockpools, or playing cricket on the flat beach that seems to stretch forever.
Then back to your beach chalet; shower off in the garden, fire up the barbecue, pop the top off a bottle of something, enough said… Winter is a time for walking and exploring, and you are right on the coastal path here. With the tide out, walk the three miles to Hayle for fish and chips or a great pasty, and back again. An epic stretch but unforgettable. Back for the evening, hunker down, a good book or the latest streaming, as you wish… No.50. has relaxation written all over it.
