Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: It was a beautiful cottage in a perfect location. Our family live in Boddam and Peterhead so it was the perfect location for us as a family. It was very clean and nice and warm when we arrived.

Negative: The only downfall to our stay was the host had entered the cottage the first day of our stay whilst we were out. It was a very cold day of 4 degrees with a feel like of -4 degrees (weather app). We did leave the heating on considering we were only out for 1 hour. We returned to the property, and the heating had been turned off. The cottage was very cold and the thermostat to put the heating on had been removed. We text the host at 15.30pm and she replied that the heating was on auto. Despite further text at 15.33pm to ask what time the heating came on, there was no reply. After 2 hours of sitting with our coats on and with blankets, I called the host at 18.10pm. The host was annoyed that we had left the heating on and had removed the thermostat. The heating was still not on, but because she was driving she replied that she could not do anything about it. I was told to ring back in one hour if the heating was still off. Surprisingly, still no heating and I text the host at 19.10pm. At 19.30pm she replied and told me that the thermostat was above a kitchen cupboard. She also put in the text message "please do not abuse it by leaving the heating on when you are not in the cottage'. As a family we were very disappointed that the host had entered the cottage while we had rented it for 3 days. We felt uneasy and felt like she had violated our privacy. Secondly, we were very disappointed that the host felt that it was within her rights to turn off and hide the thermostat to ensure that we did not abuse this which to us was completely unacceptable It was an extremely cold day and we left the heating on so we could return to a warm cottage, which we would do in our own home. It was not only a breach of our privacy, but also our human rights. It is a shame as we will be visiting Boddam again to see our family and would have rebooked the cottage but due these issues we will not book again and I would not recommend this to any family and friends.
